Sebastian Zwickl-Bernhard
Group Lead
Sebastian Zwickl-Bernhard is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Energy Economics Group at the Institute of Energy Systems and Electrical Drives at the Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien), where he heads the Energy System Modeling team 'From Minerals to Megawatts' (ES3M). His PhD research focused on the role of natural gas networks in the energy transition, particularly their decommissioning and repurposing for hydrogen and biomethane transport. Currently, his research - together with his team - centers on cross-sectoral modeling of clean-tech supply chains, the analysis of transformation pathways for energy-intensive industries, and market dynamics of LNG and critical raw materials. Since 2022, Sebastian has been an Adjunct Researcher in the Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management (IØT) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from TU Wien.
Daniel Cäsar
Doctoral Researcher
Daniel is a research associate and PhD candidate at the Energy Economics Group (EEG) since December 2025. His work focuses on the analysis of dual prices in large-scale energy system optimization and on concepts for energy-token-based communities. Daniel also brings prior professional and academic experience in the development of hydrogen markets and infrastructures, as well as in conducting parametric life cycle assessments. He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Business Administration and Engineering (Mechanical Engineering) from RWTH Aachen University.
Alexander Csekö
Researcher
Alexander is a student research assistant at the Energy Economics Group (EEG) and a master’s student in Power Engineering and Sustainable Energy Systems at TU Wien. His work is part of the energy system modelling team, where he focuses on equilibrium and complementarity-based modelling approaches. Alexander is currently working on modelling the global solar PV module supply chain.
Helen Anais Fischer
Doctoral Researcher
Helen joined the Energy Economics Group (EEG) as a research associate and PhD candidate in November 2023. As part of her doctoral studies, she researches energy security in a decarbonised European energy system, while building expertise in energy system modeling. She focuses on evolving supply risks across commodities ranging from fossil fuels to critical raw materials for clean energy technologies.
Maximilian Oitzinger
Researcher
Maximilian is a research assistant in the Energy Economics Group at the Institute of Energy Systems and Electrical Drives at the Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien) since March 2025. His work focuses on large-scale energy system modeling with a focus on technology sourcing and raw materials. Maximilian is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Electrical Power Engineering and Sustainable Energy Systems at TU Wien, where he also completed his B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering.
